Master Planning Committee For District’s Future
Comal County Emergency Services District No. 6 (ESD No. 6) is a political subdivision of Texas, established in 2003 by public election. Serving the southern area of Comal County, ESD No. 6 provides fire and medical emergency services to over 75 square miles of diverse terrain, including hill country, rural, wildland, and suburban regions.
ESD No. 6 Chartered A Master Planning Committee for District’s Future
To plan future emergency services, the President of ESD No. 6, Commissioner Herb Coley, appointed a Master Planning Committee early in 2025. The volunteer committee comprised of both citizens and ESD No. 6 Commissioners advised on population growth, facility placement, and other factors affecting emergency service providers to help the board make effective decisions for ESD No. 6’s future.
The Commissioners asked the committee to focus their efforts on four objectives.
- Evaluate projected growth areas within the district.
- Assess the current locations and capabilities of ESD No. 6 facilities.
- Examine potential sites—both identified and unidentified—for facility expansion, including future developments.
- Review existing relationships between ESD No. 6 providers and other service entities relevant to anticipated district growth, identifying findings and offering recommendations for enhancements where necessary.
In their study, the committee interviewed stakeholders, examined plans and data, and visited sites with the City of Garden Ridge, TXDOT, the County Commissioner, Comal County Planning Office, and service providers.
The committee’s report provided valuable insights for the ESD No. 6 Commissioners and will be used as they consider decisions related to the district’s strategic planning. Commissioner Coley expressed appreciation to the committee members, stating, “Your volunteer efforts offer an important resource to ESD No. 6 as we plan for the future. Anticipated growth will necessitate careful planning regarding facility locations, equipment needs, and staffing levels to maintain effective emergency services for our citizens. This study will inform the decisions that support these objectives.”
